The 17th Annual San Diego Biopharma Conference

2018 SABPA-Salk Career Development Forum
While academic research positions in academia remain a popular choice, many postdocs are interested in exploring careers in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. However, many find it challenging to map out the first steps for getting their first industry job. In the 2018 Career Development Forum co-organized by SABPA and Salk, we have invited five panelists from the local biotech/pharmaceutical industry. The panelists include postdocs who have recently made the transition to their first industry jobs and hiring managers. They will share with the audience their perspectives of the job seeking process, the job hiring process and discuss the qualifications, experience and other qualities of successful candidates for an industry position.

SABPA Entrepreneur Symposium 
Licensing of IP & Tech transfer in Biotech Arena

  • Inspire biotech professionals on startups concept in intellectual property, licensing and tech transfer
Over 40 biotech entrepreneurs and professionals attended the seminar on April 12th, organized by SABPA entrepreneur symposium and Procopio was invited to give the first education session in 2018. The event was highlighted by highly engaged round table discussion about IP protection and licensing. Three speakers who are partners at Procopio gave different perspective and contents to biotech professionals.
Kam Li, Bob Ramos, and Eli Mansour are the featured speakers of this event, inspiring attendees the importance of IP protection, IP strategy, and technology licensing and transfer for entrepreneurs. Kam shared his experience in the IP protection and career development advices as an opening remark, which is tangible and useful for the audience. The talk was followed by by Eli and Bob, who covered the principle of IP right, trade secret, licensing and tech transfer.
Eli shared lots of his experience about the pros and cons for licensing from the prospective of entrepreneurs. He focused on licensing and pointed out many pitfalls in different scenarios. Bob focused on biotechnology licensing, and he provided an important case study to highlight the importance of the terms on NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).

Entrepreneurs are welcome to submit the application to SABPA Pacific Alliance committee (cc_sabpa@yahoo.com) by May 15 to participate the 2018 Pujiang Summit and roadshow, which will be held on June 29, 2018 and reviewed by investors and pharmaceutical companies.   One team member from each selected companies will get free hotel stay and meals during the conference.
2018 Pujiang Healthcare Industry & Finance-Integration and Innovation Summit and Roadshow, organized by China Pharmaceutical Enterprise Association and China Pharmaceutical Industry Association, initiated by Shanghai Pharmaceutical Holding Co. Ltd. also as the strategic cooperation unit and sponsored by Healthcare Executive magazine (below referred as “Pujiang Summit”) will be held on June 29, 2018 at the Shanghai International Convention Center.
Breakthrough and innovation will be a hot topic of China’s pharmaceutical industry in 2018. The 2018 Pujiang Summit and roadshow will adhere to the first successful experience and further upgrade itself. It will gather more high-quality innovative projects involving hot areas such as cancer immunity, gene therapy, artificial intelligence, and mental/nervous research. The first Pujiang summit held in Shanghai in May 2017 has become one of the landmark events in the field of pharmaceutical innovation in China in 2017.
