1. The 2003 SABPA picnic
The 2003 SABPA picnic was held at the Camel Valley Community Park on September 20, 2003. This annual event celebrates the end of summer, back-to-school activity and Mid-Autumn Festival. More than 500 SABPA members and their families participates the picnic in this beautiful Saturday afternoon. Approximately 50 new members joined SABPA during this event. The picnic featured a variety of food from local restaurants, pizza, drinks and delicious home-cooked dishes from SABPA members. Jumpers, children's games, volleyball game, and networking activities were carried on throughout the event. Our special thanks will go to the organizing committee, especially Dr. Ying Yu and numerous volunteers, for making this event successful and joyful. The picnic also celebrated the one-year anniversary from the first SABPA official event and signifies a very active and successful year for SABPA.

3. The Sixth Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars (OSC) in Science & Technology
The Sixth Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars (OSC) in Science & Technology will be held at Guangzhou from Dec. 28 to 30, 2003. As part of continuing effort to promote communication and collaboration of biotech/pharmaceutical professionals between China and America, SABPA is organizing a biotech delegation to the convention. Registration, including board and lodging, will be free to all participants. The organizer will also arrange special activities for groups. SABPA co-sponsored the San Diego high-tech delegation to the 5th convention in 2002. Biotech was a major focus of the convention last year and more than 10 SABPA members are among the delegates. During last year's convention, a variety of activity introduced the domestic environment in china for biotech, experiences from previously landed overseas scholars, and what types of projects may likely to succeed. 4. Upcoming SABPA event: Career Development Seminar
SABPA is organizing a career development seminar for all current and future Biotech/Parma professionals. It is one of the events that SABPA members have all been interested in and waited for. The current plan is as follows.

6. A year of success: SABPA in 2003
SABPA was officially established in the summer of 2002. Since the beginning of 2003, Board of Directors and all subcommittees have geared up for a variety of activities and made series of accomplishment. Highlights of SAPBA events in the year 2003 are as follows.
7. Call for help for SABPA communication
Communication plays a pivotal role in connecting all SABPA members and connecting SABPA to the rest of the Biotech/Parma field. The duty for SABPA communication team includes maintaining SABPA website, collecting hot news in Biotech and related field, drafting and distributing emails and newsletters to all members. The communication team is currently recruiting volunteers to help in writing and/or editing SABPA newsletters. Motivation but no previous experience is required. 8. Member’s Posting: Fine art class for children
A fine art class is open to children with three and half years or older. The class will teach little ones how to draw and give them sense of Fine Arts in small classes or private lessons. The teachers speak both English and Chinese and they have years of experience in teaching fine arts. As graduates from one of the top fine art academies in China, the teachers are also long-time renowned artists on oil painting on canvas.
