Senior or Executive Director of Biology

My client is a leading integrated drug discovery outsourcing company that provides high-quality, integrated research and development services to biopharmaceutical clients. Their services range from medicinal chemistry to discovery biology, pharmacology, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) and drug safety evaluation.

My client has 675 employees, the majority of whom are based in Beijing, where the company operates a state-of-the-art, 110,000-square-foot laboratory. They have the highest concentration of drug discovery expertise of any contract research organization (CRO) in China.

In November 2009, my client joined with PPD, a leading global US-based CRO providing drug discovery, development and life cycle management services. Together, the companies perform a broad range of research and development services for large pharmaceutical clients from early stage through Phase IV.

Key activities: 

Oversee biology-related research and drug discovery activities to execute departmental strategies and meet deliverables. The selected candidate will also be responsible for biology resource allocation, recruitment and the professional development of biology staff.

Requirements:

• Ph.D. in biology, cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, virology, pharmacology or a related field with an outstanding scientific track record
• More than 15 years of drug discovery experience in drug discovery target identification, lead identification/optimization and clinical candidate selection/development; biomarker research experience is a plus
• Extensive experience in managing Ph.D. and non-Ph.D. scientists and leading drug discovery projects
• Successful track record in advancing compounds or biologics into clinical development
• Excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills
