| Yahu A. Liu is a research investigator at Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation. He previously worked in medicinal chemistry teams at ChemBridge (San Diego, CA), Vertex (San Diego, CA), and Pfizer (Kalamazoo, MI). Prior to coming to the states for his enrollment in a PhD program in bioorganic chemistry, he had worked as an associate director, in the Chinese Institute of Standards and Technology (Beijing, China) and as a chemical engineer at WH Chemical Corporation (Beijing, China). In drug discovery research, Yahu is a co-inventor of a couple of preclinical candidates (cancer therapy). His main contribution to organic chemistry includes his discovery of two new rearrangement reactions and his work on the total synthesis of a unique indole alkaloid. Yahu is an ad hoc reviewer for Medicinal Research Reviews, Mini Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, Current Pharmaceutical Design, and Chemistry & Biology, Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, Cell Press and for Wiley Press. Yahu has co-authored 80 granted patents, published patent applications, scientific research papers, invited reviews, and national (US)/international meeting presentations and his published work has been cited more than 500 times. He has received SBTSC Scientific and Technological Achievement award twice.
Yahu is currently a member of the board of directors and Vice President of Social Events of Sino-American Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Professional Association (SABPA). He has been active in SABPA since 2003 and served in several committees of SABPA. Yahu has been awarded SABPA Leadership Award (2011), SABPA Achievement Award (2008) and SABPA Team Recognition Award twice (2006 and 2009).
Yahu received his Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH) in the laboratory of the late Professor Lawrence M. Sayre. He earned a degree of Master of Engineering from Beijing Institute of Light Industry (Beijing, China) and obtained his early chemistry education at Shanxi Teacher’s College (Shanxi Province, China).
