Position Summary:

Do you enjoy helping people learn complex techniques? Do you want to move away from bench work yet still use your technical troubleshooting skills?

 

As an in-house Technical Applications Scientist of Illumina products and applications, you will provide technical advice and troubleshooting assistance for NGS customers, focusing on experimental design, sequencing library preparation support and troubleshooting. You will be a key member of the AMR Service and Support Team assisting in the development of key commercial processes to ensure that Illumina provides its customers with world class technical support.

Flexible work schedule in early morning or early evening is desirable. Must be available to work on weekends as needed. Workweek will be Monday-Friday for first 3-6 months, then may move to Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·       Develop technical mastery of Illumina’s sequencing library preparation portfolio, with opportunity to train on Illumina’s microarray portfolio

·       Professionally and efficiently triage incoming phone and email requests for assistance from external and internal customers

·       Provide technical guidance regarding Illumina's products to existing and prospective customers

·       Independently research and provide resolutions to customer concerns

·       Collaborate with a dynamic team of support scientists to find optimal solutions to technical challenges

·       Assist customers with the design and selection of assays for custom products by utilizing in-house resources, and public and private databases

·       Provide customer feedback to marketing and product development teams

·       Create and edit technical documentation and training materials to educate external and internal customers

·       Ensure key performance metrics, including customer response time, issue resolution time, and departmental efficiency are met or exceeded

·       Promptness and courteousness are musts

 

All listed tasks and responsibilities are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require additional task and responsibilities

 

Education:

 

·       B.S. with 2 or more years relevant lab experience, M.S., or Ph.D. in molecular biology, genetics or related field

·       Familiarity with molecular biology protocols such as PCR and DNA/RNA quantification techniques is required. Sequencing experience is desirable but not required.

 

Requirements:

 

·       Excellent written and verbal communication

·       Excellent analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills required

·       Demonstrated training or teaching experience

·       Demonstrated ability to perform well working in teams

·       Customer support experience highly desirable

·       Fluency in Spanish is a plus

·       Willing to travel up to 10%
