As the year 2023 comes to a close, we want to take a moment to congratulate all of you on your hard work and dedication to our organization!

2. SABPA 2023 Achievements Review

Dear SABPA volunteers and friends,

we are thrilled to share with you the remarkable achievements and milestones that SABPA has accomplished throughout the year. Our commitment to serving the Southern California biomedical and pharmaceutics community has been unwavering, and it is with great pride that I present our year-end accomplishments:

• Name Change: Officially changed our name to SoCal Association for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Advancements (SABPA) to reflect our mission of serving the broader community.

• Flagship Event Success: FTD and Biopharma annual conferences witnessed outstanding success with about 500 professionals registered and attending both conferences.

• New Conferences: Introduced two new conferences to our community including the first annual Entrepreneurship and Partnering Symposium and the first onsite Chemistry Symposium co-organized by SABPA and ACS.

• Collaborative Initiatives: Co-organized the 2023 Life Science Job Fair by our ECD Committee with the UCSD and SALK Post-doc Associations.

• EPC Salon Series: The monthly EPC salon series provided a forum for entrepreneurs and innovators to exchange ideas.



These accomplishments are a testament to the dedication and collaborative efforts of our SABPA members, leaders, and our volunteers, whose hard work and commitment have propelled SABPA to new heights.

Looking ahead, we remain focused on our mission and vision for 2024. We are excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead and are committed to serving the entire community.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our members, volunteers, speakers, and sponsors for their continued support, without which these achievements would not have been possible. As we conclude 2023, we are eager to embark on the journey ahead, striving for even greater success and impact in 2024.

4. 2024 SABPA Frontiers in Therapeutics and Diagnostics (FTD) Meeting

---Exploring the Future of Therapeutics and Diagnostics: Unveiling Breakthroughs in Medicine

We are delighted to offer a sneak peek into the much-anticipated 2024 SABPA Frontiers in Therapeutics and Diagnostics (FTD) Meeting.

When: March 23, 2024

Where: Hilton San Diego/Del Mar

The forthcoming FTD Conference is set to shine a spotlight on three revolutionary domains: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADC), and Minimal Residual Disease (MRD), each representing the forefront of innovations in therapeutics and diagnostics.

• The realm of diabetes management is witnessing a paradigm shift with GLP-1 inhibitors, a class of drugs demonstrating remarkable efficacy in regulating blood sugar levels. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Lotte Bjerre Knudsen, Chief Scientific Advisor at Novo Nordisk, will be our keynote speaker in this session.

• ADCs represent a formidable fusion of antibodies and potent drugs, orchestrating a targeted attack on specific cells while sparing healthy ones, enabling more precise and effective treatments for various cancers. The recent acquisition of Seagen by Pfizer marks a significant step forward in the advancement of ADC therapeutics. We are privileged to have the Chief Scientific Officer of Pfizer Oncology R&D, Dr. Jeff Settleman, as the keynote speaker to offer a glimpse into the scientific innovation and impact expected from integrating Seagen’s technology and expertise into Pfizer’s R&D pipeline.

• The concept of MRD has emerged as a game-changer in cancer therapeutics. By detecting and targeting residual cancer cells that may linger post-treatment, MRD assessments offer a clearer understanding of disease progression and treatment response.
