We seek a collaborative and highly innovative computational scientist to join our Predictive Sciences team to work on multi-omics perturbation data from compounds in our proprietary library to infer novel mechanism-of-action (MoA) and help build models, facilitating the design of new compounds with desired MoA.

This position will work alongside biology and chemistry colleagues and other global Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS) teams. The successful applicant will play a key scientific role in analyzing screening data from our compound library to infer their MoA and therapeutic effects on specific disease subtypes. This candidate will also work on developing methods to deepen our understanding of additional protein degradation machinery and work with the chemistry team to incorporate these findings to expand our compound library. This candidate will collaborate extensively with the machine learning and chemoinformatic team to build generative and predictive models to identify rules to design compounds with desired therapeutic effects. We seek a meticulous and scrupulous candidate passionate about learning a new drug discovery paradigm, bringing new medicines to the patients, and comfortable working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interrogate multi-dimensional compound profiling data from proteomics, transcriptomics, and phenomics screens to characterize compounds’ MoA.
  • Use the compound’s MoA to infer their therapeutic effects on specific disease sub-types and design experiments to validate their efficacy in the relevant pre-clinical models.
  • Work with other members of the Predictive Sciences team to nominate high-value targets and interrogate our compound library to identify compounds downmodulating them.
  • Develop methods to interrogate and deepen our understanding around additional mechanisms to degrade proteins and devise experimental strategies to validate it.
  • Devise screening strategies, guide screen execution, and develop corresponding data analytics
  • Collaborate with the machine learning team to design de novo molecules with desirable MoA profiles using generative AI approaches.
  • Work with informatics and compound management team to manage compound screen and high throughput assay datasets.
  • Associate MoA classes of a compound library to its chemical features to elucidate Structure-Activity Relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to plan and execute various screening and validation strategies for drug discovery programs.
  • Author scientific reports and present methods, results, and conclusions to a publishable standard.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in computational biology, or systems biology with 10+ years of academic / industry experience and 2+ years of leadership experience.
  • OR Master's Degree in computational biology, or systems biology with 8+ years of academic / industry experience and 2+ years of leadership experience.
  • OR PhD in computational biology, or systems biology with 6+ years of academic / industry experience and 2+ years of leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in computational biology, or systems biology with 8+ years of post-doctoral experience in applying computational and analytical approaches in university, pharma, or biotech settings, focusing on drug discovery or elucidating underlying disease pathology.
  • Working knowledge of drug discovery in pre-clinical or early-phase drug development using screening data from various high-throughput omics platforms.
  • Strong expertise in unsupervised machine learning and pattern recognition.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data from multiple experimental assays and propose new biological hypotheses.
  • Demonstrated cross-discipline collaborations, particularly with chemo-informatics, machine learning, and wet-lab scientists.
  • Strong scientific understanding of molecular biology, preferably in Oncology.
  • Expertise in programming and scripting languages (R, Python, or Matlab).
  • Strong applied statistical background.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $159,000-$185,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the where the job is performed.
